Last week before starting the race weekend at Sonoma Raceway, I had the opportunity to visit Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif. along with eight fellow Verizon IndyCar Series drivers. Their campus is huge–and super cool. Not only do they have an open layout with outdoor courtyards and a climbing wall, but they also have a bunch of on-site restaurants and food vendors. All for free! But we weren’t there just for the snacks… we also met with Facebook engineers and sports account managers to learn about best practices for athletes. They also set us up with verified pages and a new app created just for verified users, which makes it even easier for me to update my page while on the road. Awesome!

With more than one billion (yes, BILLION!) users around the world it’s no secret that as an athlete, having an active Facebook page is important in order to interact and communicate with fans. It also gives us a bit of a personal touch point–whether fans can make the trip out to a race track or not, they still have the chance to “talk” with their favorite driver via Facebook. It’s almost become the electronic version of having a signed hero card! From sharing photos to videos and news links to contests, the opportunities are virtually endless.

So, what is your favorite part of Facebook? What would you like to see more of on my Facebook page? Tell me here!
