Chevy numbers to note: Terabytes and wins

Chevrolet clinched its third consecutive Verizon IndyCar Series Manufacturer Championship with the 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged, direct-injected V6 engine. Some factoids about the bowtie brand in the series:

12 – Chevrolet-powered cars won 12 of the 18 races during the 2014 season.

33 — Races won with a Chevrolet engine in the past three seasons.

78 – Percentage of Chevrolet-powered cars in the Fast Nine qualifying positions for the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race since 2012.

100 – Man hours to assemble one race engine.

108 – Average distance in miles traveled by a piston in the Chevrolet race car engine cylinder during the 98th Running of the Indianapolis 500 in May.

1,851 – Race laps led during the season by Chevrolet-powered cars.

9,500 – Individual parts in the race engine.

30,065 – Revolutions of Ed Carpenter’s engine during his four-lap qualifying run in the Fast Nine to secure his second consecutive Indianapolis 500 pole start.

250,000 — Half a terabyte of data is collected by Chevrolet engineers throughout the course of the racing season, which is equivalent to about a quarter million pictures worth of data.
