Charlie Kimball and Novo Nordisk Return with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2015 and Beyond

Kimball back for fifth Verizon IndyCar Series Season with Partner Novo Nordisk

INDIANAPOLIS (Dec. 12, 2014) – Chip Ganassi Racing Teams (CGRT) announced today that Novo Nordisk and Verizon IndyCar Series racewinner Charlie Kimball will return for their fifth season with Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing (NNCGR) to begin a new multi-year deal.

Diabetes Community Hero: Charlie Kimball has made a strong impression on the diabetes world and was dubbed by Time Magazine as a “rock star in the diabetes community.” For his community service efforts, Kimball received the 2012 Jefferson Award for Public Service, which is considered the “Nobel Peace Prize of community service awards.” Kimball has also been featured in the New York Times, Men’s Fitness, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, and PARADE Magazine for his work in the world of diabetes. Novo Nordisk and Kimball made headlines in 2009 by sending out the first-ever pharmaceutical-branded tweet via the program’s @racewithinsulin account.
Off-Track with Novo Nordisk: Novo Nordisk and the Race With Insulin program have been a fixture in the Indy car paddock since 2011 and have activated a proactive marketing effort with the message that diabetes does not have to slow you down. The No. 83 car and team are the focal point of a year-round diabetes education and awareness program that includes hospital visits, meetings with families living with diabetes and media outreach in major markets across the nation. Each year Kimball shares his story and meets with approximately 10,000 people living with diabetes.
Diabetes Pioneer: Kimball is the first licensed driver with diabetes and first licensed driver to qualify for and complete the Indianapolis 500 in the history of INDYCAR. Novo Nordisk has partnered with Kimball since he first joined INDYCAR as an Indy Lights Series driver in 2009. Diagnosed with diabetes in 2007, Kimball manages his diabetes with Novo Nordisk products both on and off the track.
Kimball 2014 at a Glance: The Verizon IndyCar Series racewinner added another podium finish, four top-five finishes, and 10 top-10 finishes to his career statistics in 2014. Over the past four seasons in the series, Kimball has recorded one win, eight top-five finishes, and 28 top-10 finishes.
