DEBRIEF
“I’m just really proud of the Carlin guys. They fight and work so hard, weekend in and weekend out. They’re the first ones here in the paddock in the morning and the last ones out at night. We struggled a little on Saturday but on race day we were able to bring it. We showed up in Toronto with a great foundation from Detroit race two, a top-10 car, and we were able to make it a little better this weekend. The No. 23 crew had two fantastic pit stops—that second stop was just rock solid. To be able to come out with a top-five, leaning on fourth at the end, was a great way to cap off the weekend. Really pleased to bring home Carlin’s first top-five in IndyCar and my first top-five of the season.”

SATURDAY, JULY 14
RESULTS
Practice 3: P23, 1:00.0148
Qualifying: P20, 1:00.4313

DEBRIEF
“It was a new experience for Carlin in IndyCar, a wet to dry session like that. We definitely made the right call, starting on the Firestone alternates. When we came in for the second set of alternates toward the end, we were just the first to catch the checkered flag. With the track drying every lap, rubbering up and getting faster, I think that cost us a few tenths and maybe the difference between where we are and further up the field. It’s a great learning experience. We split strategies at the start of the session; the 59 went on wets, we went on slicks. I think it was the right call for slicks, because most guys came in and put slicks on right away and ran to the end of the session. It’s not where we wanted to start, and I don’t think it’s where the speed of the car is. But I know with good pit stops and strategy tomorrow, we’ll move forward.”

FRIDAY, JULY 13
RESULTS
Practice 1: P22, 1:02.4714
Practice 2: P18, 1:00.4977

DEBRIEF
“I’m pretty happy with this afternoon’s practice. We definitely made progress since this morning’s session. We have a few balance challenges left to address before tomorrow, but I’m feeling pretty confident that by looking at Max’s data and our videos we can learn on the No. 23 side. I think the 23 and 59 Carlin cars will both take a step forward tomorrow. We didn’t maximize that alternate tire run very well, and even toward the end of the session, it continues to rubber up around here lap to lap. The later you go to new tires, the faster you’ll be.”
