The Grand Prix of Houston is this weekend. One of the IndyCar drivers has to keep an eye on more things than just the race, and he’s pretty good at it.

“When I got into cars at the age of 16, I never looked back,” Charlie Kimball said.

Kimball had a top-10 finish in Houston last year. He also has Type 1 diabetes, which creates an interesting challenge for someone who’s doing something physically tasking while having to keep an eye on his blood sugar.

Remember, there’s no power steering in these cars, and we’re talking about 650 hp.

He said he’s found a routine.

“I wear a continuous monitor, which plugs into the car’s data system, so I can check speed, lap time, oil pressure, blood sugar, water temperature – car and body data, right there on the steering wheel,” Kimball said.
